Characteristics of social learning theory
Suggest behaviour is learnt from significant others by social isolation.
We learn from people we hold in high esteem = role models
Developing personality traits by associating and learning from others
What are the two types of socialisation
Primary - from our family
Secondary - schools, media, learning from others
What behaviour do we copy?
Behaviour that we see as successful and powerful and is consistently shown to us
When a person is motivated to learn by watching someone else work and be rewarded
Four steps in vicarious learning?
Observe - identify - reinforced - copy
What is the interactionist approach?
A theory which combines trait and social learning to predict behaviour in situations
What is The Hollander approach ?
A theory that suggests the personality is made up of 3 features
What are the 3 features of the Hollander approach?
Role related behaviour
You believe the theories, you accept a link that personality can predict behaviour
You don’t believe them, you doubt the link that personality can predict behaviour
How could interactionist approach improve performance?
Coach predicts potential aggressive behaviour - remove player before getting sent off.
Coach could change players by encouraging them in situations like penalties.
