Nature and Nurture cannot be separated:

A

they both contribute e.g. the inherited disorder that prevents an amino acid being produced resulting in brain damage, can be averted by having a specific diet thus prevention is achieved through environmental manipulation.

Diathesis-stress

A

some people may have a biological vulnerability to a specific disorder but this may only develop if triggered by a life event and thus a persons nature is only expressed under certain conditions of nurture.

Nurture affects Nature:

Blakemore and Coopers (1970)

A

did work with kittens and found that experience affects innate systems. Kittens had large collars restricting them from seeing only vertically or horizontal stripes and when they were put in the real world at 5 months, they no longer hasten ability to see lines of the opposite orientation

Epigentics:

A

the material in each cell of your body that acts as ‘switches’ to turn genes on/off. Life experiences control these switches and they’re passed on to subsequent generations. This means that genetics and environment are much less separate than they’re thought to be
