What is the technical term for negative punishment?

The procedure in which a stimulus is withdrawn contingent upon a behavior and the rate of the behavior decreases

they have to be removed from a reinforcing environment for some period of time


characteristics of effective punishment

contingency: aversive stimuli do not punish behavior unless delivered contingent upon a behavior
Immediacy: delayed aversives dont deter much behavior
size: the larger the more effective


what are side effects

Emotional response: you become the aversive if you use it too much
Addiction to punishment: punishment is immediate and you get reinforced


differences between positive and negative punishment and extinction

Positive: presented and the behavior decreases
negative: removed and behavior decreases
extinction: known reinforcer is removed and the rate of the the behavior decreases
