1
Q

Clerermans Theory of Consciousness

A
  • is a learned activity
  • no predefined neural area of the brain
  • only a few neural features are needed to create consciousness
  • the brain is able to develop and adapt consciouness
  • ## we need to know how to know information
2
Q

Correlation

A
  • demonstrates a relationship between one set of data and another
  • Not causal in effect
  • requires other supporting data to demonstrate cause and effect.
3
Q

Do changes in brain wave activity indicate change in consciousness

A

This is difficult to say.
- cannot rule out third factor such as signals coming from subcortical area of the brain
- correlations exist but not yet fully determined
eg: Positive Correlation: As icecream sales increase Drownings increase.
the correlation is there but the causality is that in summer people tend to eat icecream and go swimming.

4
Q

why do we need to sleep

A
  • Process new learning
  • recover physically and mentally
  • Memory consolidation
  • energy conservation
5
Q

Parasomnia

A
  • Involuntary behaviours that are normally done when we are awake, occur while sleeping
  • Sleep walking and sleep talking
6
Q

Barbiturates

A

any of a class of sedative and sleep-inducing drk ugs derived from barbituric acid.
