1
Q

What is the anatomical position?

A

Face forward, arms by sides with palms facing forward, lower limbs together with feet parallel.

2
Q

Why do we need the anatomical position?

A

Makes referencing structures easier

3
Q

Medial saggital vs parasaggital?

A

Medical saggital straight down the midline parasaggital off the midline

4
Q

Positional terms?

A

They are relative to other structures

5
Q

Distal and proximal

A

Elbow distal to shoulder but proximal to wrist

6
Q

Terms of laterality?

A

Structures on same side= ipsilateral

Structures on opposite side= contralateral

7
Q

What is dextracardia?

A

Heart on opposite side

8
Q

What is situs inversus?

A

Visceral organs on opposite side

9
Q

How do movements occur?

A

At joints

Ina given plane

With reference to anatomical position

10
Q

Flexion vs extension?

A

Flexion decreases angle at joint while extension extends it

11
Q

Abduction vs adduction

A

Abduction is movement away from the midline and adduction is towards the midline

12
Q

Lateral rotation vs medial rotation

A

Later away from body

Medial toward body

13
Q

What is circumduction?

A

Combination of flexion, extension, abduction and adduction

14
Q

Pronate vs supinate?

A

Pronation= to show back of forearm

Supination- show front of forearm

Lying on front= prone

Lying on back= supine

15
Q

Specialised hand terms?

A

Fingers away= abduction
Fingers towards centre= adduction

Thumb away= extension
Thumb towards= flexion

Thumb and little finger away= opposition

Thumb and little finger towards= reposition

16
Q

Specialised ankle terms?

A

Dorsiflexion= toes to sky

Plantarflexion= toes to floor

Rolling foot towards midline=inversion

Rolling foot away from midline= eversion
