1
Q

Cardiovascular System

A

Transports nutrients, chemical messengers, gases, and wastes in blood.
Major components: Heart and blood vessels.

2
Q

Respiratory System

A

Adds oxygen to blood and removes carbon dioxide from blood.

Major components: Nose, Pharynx (throat), Larynx, Trachea, Bronchi, and Lungs.

3
Q

Digestive System

A

Breaks down food into units that can be absorbed into the body; eliminates waste and nondigestible fiber in food. Major components: Mouth, Salivary Glands, Pharynx, Esophagus, Stomach, Intestines, Pancreas, Liver, and Gallbladder.

4
Q

Urinary System

A

Removes nitrogenous wastes; maintains body fluid volume, PH, and electrolyte levels through urine production.
Major components: Kidneys, Ureters, Urinary Bladder, and Urethra.

5
Q

Integumentary System

A

Provide a protective barrier for the body and aids in production of vitamin D; contains sensory receptors for pain, touch, and temperature; thermoregulation. Major Components: Skin and Skin structures (hair, nails, sweat glands, oil glands).

6
Q

Lympathic/ Immune System

A

Returns fluid to cardiovascular system; detects, filters, and eliminates disease-causing organisms, including cancer cells.
Major components: Lymphatic vessels and Ducts, Lymph nodes, Spleen, Thymus, and Bone marrow.

7
Q

Skeletal System

A

Protects major organs; provides levers and support for body movement.
Major components: Bones, Cartilage, and Joints.

8
Q

Muscular System

A

Moves bones and maintains posture.

Major components: Skeletal Muscles, ligaments and Tendons.

9
Q

Nervous System

A

Controls cell functions with electrical signals; helps control body homeostasis.
Major components: Brain, Spinal cord, and Nerves.

10
Q

Endocrine System

A

Controls cell function with hormones; helps control body homeostasis.
Major components: Hypothalamus, Pineal Gland, Pituitary, Thyroid, Pancreas, Adrenal Glands, Ovaries, and Testes.

11
Q

Reproductive System

A

Produces gametes; female uterus provides environment for development of fetus.
Major components in the male: Testes, Epididymis, Ductus Deferens, Prostate, and Penis. Major components in the female: Ovaries, Uterine tubes, Uterus, Vagina, and Mammary Glands.

12
Q

Cranial cavity

A

Contains the brain.

13
Q

vertebral Cavity

A

Cavity that contains the spinal cord.

14
Q

Thoracic Cavity

A

Is the space enclosed by the ribs, sternum, and vertebral column.

15
Q

Pericardial Cavity

A

Surrounds the heart.

16
Q

Pleural Cavity

A

Located on either side of the mediastinum.

Each contains a lung.

17
Q

Mediastinum Cavity

A

A central area within the thoracic cavity, extends from neck to diaphragm and from the sternum to the vertebral column.
Contains the heart, thymus gland, esophagus, trachea, blood vessels, and bronchi.

18
Q

Diaphragm

A

Separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominopelvic cavity.

19
Q

Abdominopelvic Cavity

A

Consists of two continuous cavities: the abdominal cavity and the pelvic cavity.

20
Q

Abdominal Cavity

A

Is the superior portion located between the diaphragm and the brim of the pelvis (hip bone).

21
Q

Pelvic Cavity

A

Is the inferior portion of the abdominopelvic cavity.
Contains part of the large intestines, rectum, urinary bladder, female reproductive organs (ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina), and male reproductive organs (prostate, and part of ductus deferens).
