1
Q

Patellar anatomy

A

Base (closer to femur)
Apex (closer to tibia)

3 Facets - odd, medial, lateral

Vertical ridge

2
Q

Patellar static stability

A

Knee wants to stay relatively balanced in the middle

More common for patella to be subluxed in the lateral direction

3
Q

Q Angle

A

Angle from ASIS (anterior-superior iliac spine) to midline patella to tibial tubercle

Normal is 13-15 deg

Females will have larger Q angle due to larger ASIS

4
Q

The resultant vector from Q angle is one of the explanations of

A

the kneecap going more laterally during injury

5
Q

Normal Alignment

A

About frontal plane alignment of tibia and femur, not about Q angle

Males have greater angle, closer to varus

Women have wider pelvis, closer to valgus
