Who were the plains indians?

A

A group of nomadic people in America who specifically lived on the Great Plains in different Nations.

What were the Great Plains like?

A

Summer- Hot, dry, windy.
Winter- Wet, cold, windy.
Landscape- Long grass near rivers. Short on Plains. Very flat.

What was warfare like?

A

No honour in killing people, so a counting coup was when you use a stick to hit opponents within combat. Unless it was really intense, then scalping enemies prevented them from going to the afterlife.

What was the importance of circles?

A

Tipis were circles (kept them upright in wind). Circle of life.

Where did the Sioux religion start?

A

In the Black Hills of South Dakota (Mt Rushmore). Wakan Tanka is the great spirit.

A

Man hunted and provided for the family.
Woman owned the Tipi and made EVERYTHING
Children learned their roles
Elders provided wisdom and raised children until they were too old then they wandered off to die of exposure.

What was the Sun-Dance?

A

A dance to bring warriors and tribes glory in battle.

Why was the land sacred?

A

Because it was a gift from the spirits and it had it’s own spirit.
