A

What is “duality of man”?

A

The idea that there’s two sides to everyone. One good and one bad.

How did the author incorporate his time at the Hospital into JandH?

A

He included ideas that drugs, powders ect. Can release a different side of us and reveal things. He also included ideas about dreams and sub-conscious thoughts.

How could a duality of man concept play into the authors life?

A

The book JandH made him a superstar in Britain and America but it cost him his reputation. (i.e. there are two sides to his action)

How did Victorian Society treat disfigured people?

How is this reflected in JandH?

A

They thought that disfigured people were ‘evil’. In JandH, Mr Hyde is disfigured and deformed and is clearly a despicable, evil character.

How could drug use be linked into JandH?

A

Dr Jekyll takes a drug to become Mr Hyde. Considering Mr Hyde is evil, perhaps there could be a an anti drug message

A

He “tramples” her.

A

A

All of his assets are signed to go to Mr Hyde if Jekyll dies or disappears.

A

He beats a man to death and he’s a member of Parliament.

Dr Jekyll took the potion and an angry Mr Hyde took his anger out on the man.

A

His health improves dramatically and as a result, he hosts a party.
This is because he stopped taking the potion after he murdered the man.

A

Utterson can’t reach Jekyll anymore and Poole says that his “master isn’t receiving any guests”.

A

Lanyon becomes very ill and is on his deathbed. He refuses to talk about Jekyll and says that he’ll figure everything out after he dies.

A

They see Dr Jekyll getting some fresh air and looking deathly ill. They ask him if he wants to go on a walk but he becomes scared all of a sudden and runs into his house.

A

A

How is Dr Lanyon involved / what does the letter say?

A

Lanyon was instructed to break into Jekyll’s laboratory and get specific ingredients for Mr Hyde.
He arrives and makes a potion. He asks if Lanyon wants to see this and he says yes.
Hyde drinks the glass and transforms into Dr Jekyll.
