What is bile formed from?

A

It is formed from the remains of damaged red blood cells

A

It is a yellow-green viscous liquid

A

A

What are the functions of bile?

A

To emulsify lipids (to break down large fats and oils into tiny droplets) This increases the surface area for enzyme digestion.

To neutralise chyme from the stomach
To excrete pigments such as biliverdin and bilirubin

What does bile contain that can neutralise chyme?

A

sodium hydrogen carbonate, which is alkaline
