-Work out potential demand for its goods or services
-Decide how many staff are needed
-Decide what skills are required
The company analyses the profile of its current workforce to determine the need for new staff and the skills that need to be developed in existing staff

Benefits of internal recruitment

  • Employees are know to the organisation
  • Employees feel more valued and therefore motivated
  • Save money on advertising, training, selecting etc
  • Existing employees are already familiar with policies, procedures and culture

  • New ideas are not gained
  • An employee to fill the vacancy may not be available
  • Another vacancy will be created
  • May cause conflict among those applying within the organisation

- Large quantities of applicants to be chosen from

  • If existing employees apply and do not get the position they may feel less valued and less motivated
  • It can be expensive to advertise
  • The person would be unknown and the wrong person may be selected
