  2. Commensalism (neither benifit or harmed)

A
  • Host (risk factors, occupation, behaviours etc)
  • Environment (geology, climate etc)
  • Pathogen (virulence, dose)

dose- number of organisms/ duration of exposure

virulence- strength of pathology

What is the prodromal period of a disease

A

stage where their is vague and general symptoms

What is the convalescence stage

A

period after decline when there are no s+s. It is the gradual recovery of health and strength after an ilness

what is the latent period of an infectious disease

A

The period of replication before shedding can occur

what is the communicable period of an infectious disease

A

Follows latency period and begins with shedding of the agent
(frequently the communicable period begins before symptoms are present)

What is an incubatory and covalescent carrier

A

Incubatory- those who can trnsmit the adjent during the incubation period before clinical illness

Covalescent- revovered from the ilness but remain cablable of transmitting

What is an acute self limited infection

A

grows until disease develops has short course then complete recovery

What is a persistent latent infection

A

microbe continous to be in pts. body following initial recovery in latent form.

reactivation with microbial growth and shedding will occur again

What is a persistent slow infection follwing acute infection

A

Following the initial recovery of the acute attack, microbe growth coninous over a long period of time during good growth conditions until max symptoms
