1
Q

what are the fibrous structures of the brain?

A

meninges, dura mater, arachnoid mater, pia mater

2
Q

what is the dura mater?

A

tough layer that covers the entire brain

3
Q

what is the arachnoid mater?

A

under the dura mater, in which are suspended both arteries and veins

4
Q

what’s the pia mater?

A

the very thin layer under the arachnoid, that adhered directly to the brain surface

5
Q

what is the creation rate for CSF in the ventricles of the brain?

A

0.33mL/minute

6
Q

what is a “primary” brain injury?

A

immediate damage to the brain tissue as a direct result of the injury force

7
Q

what is a coup injury?

A

brain injury on the side of impact

8
Q

what is a contracoup injury?

A

brain injury on the opposite side of impact

9
Q

what’s a secondary brain injury?

A

a injury to the brain as a result of hypoxia of decreased perfusion of brain tissue after a primary injury.

10
Q

what is the normal CO2 rate in the blood?

A

35-45mmHg

11
Q

what’s ICP?

A

intracranial pressure. pressure of the brain and contents within the brain

12
Q

what’s CPP?

A

cerebral perfusion pressure. pressure of blood flowing through the brain

13
Q

what’s MAP?

A

mean arterial BP

the sum of the diastolic BP plus 1/3(systolic - diastolic)

14
Q

when does ICP become dangerous?

A

when its > or = to 15mmHG

15
Q

when does ICP become cerebral herniation?

A

> or = 25mmHg

16
Q

what does the “head” consist of, excluding the face and facial structures?

A

scalp, skull, fibrous coverings of the brain, brain tissue, cerebrospinal fluid, vascular compartments.
