Glaucoma Flashcards
What is it
Group of eye diseases cause increased intraocular hypertension
Damages optic nerve -> blindness
Anterior chamber made of
Corner to iris
Posterior chamber is
Iris to lens
Vitreous chamber
Lens to back of eye
Anterior and posterior chambers are found in
Anterior of the eye
Vitreous segment found where
Posterior of the eye
Anterior of eye filled with
Aqueous humour
Posterior eye filled with
Vitreous humur
What secretes aqueous humour
Ciliary epithelium
Aqueous humour route
To aqueous veins to episcleral venous system to sclera
Glaucoma does what
Blocks drainage system causing intraocular hypertension
Affects optic nerve
Vision loss
Types of glaucoma
Open angle
Closed angle (narrow)
Low pressure
Open angle glaucoma features
Drainage clogged
Increase pressure
Outer rim atrophy
Peripheral vision loss
Pressure leads to damage of optic nerve so central vision lost too
closed angle glaucoma
Angle between iris and cornea too small
Aqueous humour can’t flow
Drainage blocked so pressure builds
Abrupt eye pain, redness, blurry vision, headache, nausea, seeing halos
Normal tension glaucoma
Aetiology unknown
Damaged optic nerve due to hypoperfusion
Genetic hypersensitivity at normal pressures
