  • They let us in on their secret. They’re getting married. (Eles nos contaram o segredinho deles. Eles vão se casar.)
  • If you promise not to tell, I’ll let you in on a little secret. (Se você prometer ficar calado, eu vou te contar um segredinho.)

  • I didn’t mean to LET ON about the party; I just said it without thinking. (Não tive a intenção de falar sobre a festa; eu simplesmente falei sem querer.)
  • Don’t let on that I told you. (Não vá espalhar o que eu te contei.)

Obs: a diferença entre let in on e let on é bem fácil de entender. Let in on tem a ideia de contar o segredo intencionalmente; ou seja, contamos por que queremos contar. Já em let on a ideia é a de revelar o segredo sem querer, deixar escapar, revelamos algo sem ter a intenção.

  • Why don’t you let up on her? (Por que você não alivia com ela?)
