Q

How does the fuel temperature indication on the ECAM FUEL PAGE work?

A

The fuel temperature indication appears when its associated temperature sensor is wet. It is normally green. Advisory only in phases 2 and 6 when fuel temperature is above 45°C for the inner cell or 55°C for the outer cell or below -40°C.

3
Q

What is the purpose of the transfer valve?

A

Two electrical transfer valves are mounted in each wing to permit fuel transfer from outer to inner tank.

4
Q

From which tanks will fuel gravity feed?

A

Outer cell of the wing tanks and inner cell of the wing tanks.

5
Q

What are the main tasks of the fuel system?

A

The fuel system stores fuel in the tanks supplies fuel in the correct quantities to the fuel tanks during refuelling supplies fuel to the engines and the APU circulates fuel to cool the IDG and keeps fuel in the outer wing tank for wing bending and flutter relief.

6
Q

How does the APU fuel feed work?

A

A special fuel pump supplies fuel for APU start up when fuel feed pressure is low (due to loss of tank pumps or loss of normal AC electrical supply). This pump normally runs off the AC ESS SHED but runs off the AC STAT INV BUS if the AC ESS SHED fails.

7
Q

The message OUTER TK FUEL XFRD appears in the MEMO. What does it mean?

A

It is a reminder to show that an outer transfer valve is open.

8
Q

Why do the center tank pumps switch off automatically when the slats are extended for takeoff?

A

To ensure that the engines are fed from the wing tanks for takeoff.

9
Q

Where is the refuelling point?

A

The ‘standard’ refuelling point is under the right wing a second refuelling point under the left wing is optional.

10
Q

When does the fuel transfer start from the outer to the inner tanks?

A

The transfer valves open automatically when the inner tank reaches the low level (about 750kg/1650lb) thus enables the fuel to drain from the outer to inner tanks. Two level sensors are installed in each inner tank. Each sensor controls two transfer valves one in each wing ensuring simultaneous transfer to both wing tanks. When open the valves are latched open. They will automatically close at the next refueling operation.

11
Q

What is the fuel feed sequence for the A320?

A

Center tank inner tanks (down to 750kg in each inner tank) outer tanks (fuel transfered into the inner tanks).

12
Q

What does an amber line across the last two digits of the fuel quantity mean?

A

The Fuel Quantity Indication is inaccurate.

13
Q

What is the purpose of the cross feed valve?

A

The cross feed valve controlled by a double motor allows both engines to be fed from one side or one engine to be fed from both sides.

14
Q

The message CTR TK FEEDG appears in the MEMO. What does it mean?

A

At least one CTR TANK pump delivers fuel to the engines.

15
Q

How is the fuel transferred from the outer to the inner tanks?

A

The transfer valves have been opened automatically by the low level sensor in the inner tank.

16
Q

What is the total usable fuel for the A320 (SG 0.785kg/l or 6.651lb/US Gal.)?

A

18,728kg or 41,285lb.

17
Q

After engine shutdown what are your actions to close the fuel transfer valves?

A

No action required. The valves will close automatically during the next refueling.

18

ON:
Pump is ON.

OFF:
Pump is OFF and OFF button lights up white.

FAULT light:
Low delivery pressure. It does not come on when OFF is selected.

19

MODE SEL pb
(FUEL Panel) (A321)
- AUTO
- MAN
- FAULT Light
A

AUTO:
Control of center tank transfer valves is automatic.
- They open if the associated wing tank is not full.
- They close automatically 5 min after the center tank reaches low level.

MAN: Flight crew controls the center tank transfer valves manually with CTR TK XFR pb.

FAULT light:

  • The center tank has more than 550 lb of fuel and the left or right wing tank has less than 11000 lb and
  • The MODE SEL pb is at AUTO
20
Q

CTR TK L(R) XFR pb
(FUEL Panel) (A321)

  • ON
  • OFF
  • FAULT Light
A

ON:

  • The transfer valve opens if MAN mode is selected with the MODE SEL pb.
  • The transfer valve is controlled automatically when the flight crew selects AUTO mode.

OFF:
The transfer valve is closed.

FAULT light:
Associated wing tank overflows.

21
Q

CTR TK PUMP 1(2) pb
(FUEL Panel) (A319/A320)

  • ON
  • OFF
  • FAULT Light
A

ON:

  • Pump is automatically controlled if the MODE SEL pb is in the AUTO mode.
  • Pump is running if the MODE SEL pb is in the MAN mode.

OFF:
Pump is OFF and the OFF button lights up.

FAULT light:
Pump is in operation and the delivery pressure drops.

22
Q

X FEED pb
(FUEL Panel)

  • OFF
  • ON
  • OPEN Light
A

OFF:
The valve closes, and button does not light up.

ON:
The valve opens, and the ON button comes on white.

OPEN Light:
Green light comes on, when the valve is fully open.

23
Q

ACT pb
(FUEL Panel)

  • AUTO
  • FWD
  • FAULT Light
A

AUTO:
Control of the ACTs transfer is automatic.
- The automatic forward transfer occurs, if:
• The aircraft is in flight, and
• The slats are retracted, and
• At least one ACT low level sensor is wet, and
• The center tank high level sensor has been dry for at least 10 minutes.
- The automatic forward transfer stops, as soon as one of the above conditions is not met.

FWD:
Manual transfer to the center tank is initiated by opening:
