FIRE Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the indications of an engine fire warning:

A

If both loops are detecting an engine fire, the warnings are:
• L /R ENG FIRE handle light(s) illuminated.
• FUEL switch light(s) illuminated.
• Aural/vocal warnings sound.
• ENGINE L/R FIRE alert(s) displayed on the EAD
 MASTER WARNING lights illuminated

Q

Recall the indications/warnings associated with a lavatory fire:

A

When smoke is detected, the warnings are:

  1. MASTER CAUTION lights illuminate.
  2. Alert appears on EAD.
  3. Light illuminates red on the ceiling adjacent to the lavatory.
  4. Flight attendant master CALL lights illuminate red.
  5. HI-LO chime sounds on PA.

Q

Recall the operation of the Engine/APU fire detection system LOOPS
switches on the Aft Overhead Panel:

A

Normal operation with BOTH selected, false fire warnings are minimized because
both loops must be subjected simultaneously to fire or overheat conditions before
they will activate the fire warnings.
 A/B - Connects engine or APU fire warning system to respective fire detector loop.

Q

Explain NORMAL and SINGLE operation of the Cargo Fire Detection System

A

The forward cargo compartment contains four pairs of photoelectric smoke
detectors, each pair in a recessed ceiling pan.
 The aft cargo compartment contains two pairs of detectors
.
 Normal operation requires that two detectors sense smoke.
 Single detector operation occurs when the selector(s) are placed in the SINGLE
position.

Q

Recall how Engine and APU fire suppression is accomplished:

A

Engine and APU fire suppression is accomplished through the use of two fire
bottles.
 Each bottle has separate discharge heads and distribution lines to each engine
and the APU.

Recall the function of the APU FIRE CONT Switch:

A

NORM - Normal position.
 OFF & AGENT ARM - Immediately shuts down APU and arms the fire
extinguishers.

Q

Recall the indications/warnings associated with an APU fire:

A

If both loops are detecting an APU fire, the warnings are
1. APU automatically shuts down.
2. APU FIRE alert displayed on the EAD. MASTER WARNING lights illuminated.
3. FIRE light on the external APU ground control panel illuminated.
4. Aural/vocal warnings and exterior fire warning horn sound.
5. MASTER WARNING lights illuminated.
Note: The aural/vocal warnings shut off automatically after three cycles. Exterior fire
warning horn will remain audible until the fire is extinguished.

Q

Recall the function of the ENG FIRE Handle (red):

A

Light Illuminated - Associated engine fire is detected or the system fire testis in
progress.
 Pull - (Fully extended position) Shuts off associated engine fuel and hydraulic
shutoff valves, trips engine generator off, and silences aural/vocal warnings if the
MASTER WARNING light has not been pushed.
 Rotate - (After pulling) Discharges respective fire extinguishing agent into the
engine

Q

Recall the number of cargo fire bottles and explain how to manage the
discharge of cargo fire suppression agents:

A

There are two dedicated cargo fire bottles that can be discharged into
either the forward or aft compartment.
 The first bottle is discharged immediately by the pilot (after
about one minute, a LO light indicates low bottle pressure).
 Approximately six minutes after the first bottle has been
discharged, the PUSH Light on the FWD (or AFT) CARGO
SMOKE AGENT 2 DISCH will illuminate flashing (Note: the CARGO AGENT 2 LO Light will illuminate after
approximately two hours).
 The system can maintain conditions which will prevent
reignition of a fire for approximately 80 minutes.
 Both bottles must be MANUALLY discharged by pilot action.
