1
Q

Difference between: dynamic equilibrium and static equilibrium

A

dynamic equilibrium: forward and reverse reactions are still going
static equilibrium: forward and reverse reactions have stopped

they both have the same rate

2
Q

Equilibrium

A

balance between the forward and reverse reactions

3
Q

Do reversible reaction proceed to completion?

A

no.

4
Q

At equilibrium:

A
  • rate of the fwd reaction = rate of the reverse reaction
  • entropy is at a maximum
  • Gibbs free energy is at a minimum
5
Q

reaction quotient (Q)

A

how far the reaction has proceeded toward equilibrium

6
Q

Q equation = Keq equation

A

Q equation = Keq equation

7
Q

if Q > Keq …

A

delta G > 0
Reaction proceeds in REVERSE direction
There is a greater conc of products
reverse rxn is increased to restore eq.

8
Q

if Q

A

delta G

9
Q

if Q = Keq …

A

delta G = 0
Reaction is in DYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM
the fwd and reverse rxn rates of rxn are equal
reactants and products are present in eq. proportions

Q

A (aq) + 2B (g) —> C (g) + heat

will shift to the RIGHT if:

A
  1. A or B is added
  2. C is removed
  3. Temp is reduced
  4. Pressure is increased
  5. Volume is reduced
