1
Q

Types of drug interactions

A

Agonists = bind to receptors causing a response, mimic chemicals in the body, reversible process

Antagonist = binds to receptors to stop other chemicals producing a response, reversible and irreversible

2
Q

Nuclear receptors

A

Lipid soluble drug moves into the cytoplasm and binds to the DNA to prevent/speed up transcription and translation of proteins

3
Q

Potency

A

How much of a drug is needed to produce a certain response
High = small dose is needed therefore less side effects
If tolerance develops more drug is needed to get the same response
Ajust potency depending on age

4
Q

Drugs and the parts of the cell that they bind to

A
Drugs binding to enzymes: ASPIRIN & VIAGRA
Drugs binding to receptors:
SALBUTAMOL, B-BLOCKERS & ANTI-HISTAMINES
Drugs binding to ion channels:
LOCAL ANAESTHETICS, BENZO's
Drugs binding to carrier molecules:
OMEPRAZOLE, COCIANE
Drugs binding to DNA:
STEROIDS
Drugs binding to forgeign proteins
PENICILLIN
