What are the principles of The Data Protection Act?

A

These supersede the former GDPR principles.

  1. Lawfulness, fairness and transparency - within the law and open to people about the data you hold.
  2. Purpose limitation - only collect for specific purpose.
  3. Use limitation - only process data you need.
  4. Accuracy - ensure data is up to date.
  5. Storage limitation - delete when it’s not required.
  6. Secure - Handled securely.

What is the freedom of information act 2000?

A

Gives individuals the rights to access information held by public bodies or official information.

• Public bodies are required to issue information held on individuals within 20 days of request.

A

Telephone calls.
Site inspections
CAD drawings
Reports.

All held in the secure client’s job folder and applicable files.

Any physical paperwork is disposed into a shred bag.

Difference between GDPR and The Data Protection Act 2018?

A

GDPR - The Data Protection Act 2018 is the UK’s implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Controls how data is used, stored and managed by businesses and organisations. Provides principles and a framework.

The two acts are entirely intertwined. The job of the Data Protection Act is to set out the framework for data protection law in the UK, including the way in which GDPR is implemented as this is a European Union directive.

Have the right to find out what information organisations store about you.

Have incorrect data updated

Have data erased / stop or restrict the processing of data
