1
Q

What is a correlation?

A

An association illustrating the strengths and direction between to co-variables

2
Q

What is a scattergram?

A

Plotting a correlation on to a scattergram

-One co-variable on x-axis other on y-axis

3
Q

What are the three types of correlation?

A
  • Positive correlation
  • Negative correlation
  • Zero correlation
4
Q

What is a positive correlation?

A

Co-variables rise or fall together

5
Q

What is a negative correlation?

A

Co-variables rise and the other falls

6
Q

What is a zero correlation?

A

No relationship between the two variables

7
Q

What are the differences between experiments and correlations?

A
  • Experiment = manipulates IV and record DV
  • Correlation = no manipulation so no cause and effect
  • Experiment = controls extraneous variables
  • Correlation = Does not control extraneous variables (maybe a third variable)
8
Q

Strength of correlation:

A
  • Can suggest a future hypothesis

- Economical = less time consuming (don’t have to control the environment)

9
Q

Limitation of correlation:

A
  • No cause and effect = intervening variable that explains the relationship
  • Methods may be flawed in measuring the of variables = low in reliability
