do clients have the same priority?
is it appropriate to discuss health issues with clients friends/family?

culture and diversity

it is more than beliefs, values and knowledge. culture has commonly been defined as the worldview, lifestyle, learned and shared beliefs, values and knowledge, symbols, and rules that guide behaviour and create meaning within a group of people.
cultural "norms" are passed down from generation to generation

culture constructivist perspective

culture is viewed as a complex relational process.
-cultural is an aspect of ourselves that shifts over time depending on our history, our past experiences, our social, or professional status, our gender, and our perceptions of how others view us in society

cultural biases

biases can be difficult to identify when the client and nurse are of similar backgrounds
-when we know a culture, we often think we know what is right for client and thus impose our own values on the client by assuming our values are their values
-recognizing differences allow us to gain a greater sense of self

social justice

based on the idea that society gives individuals and groups fair treatment and an equal share of benefits, resources and opportunities. striving for justice remains a continuing struggle, since not all individuals or groups receive the same justice, opportunities or rights in similar situations

is predicted based on the understanding the power differentials inherent in health service delivery and redressing these inequities through educational processes
