1
Q

Identify 3 properties of light

A
  • Wavelength = Hue
  • Amplitude = brightness
  • Purity = Saturation
2
Q

compare Trichromatic and opponent processes

A
  • Trichromatic Theory - where cones are divided into three colours
  • Opponent Process Theory - complimentary colours will blend to make grey tones, creates afterimages
3
Q

Lens

A

Focuses light rays that fall on the Retina

4
Q

Retina

A
  • Neural tissue lining on the back of the eye
  • absorbs light
  • processes images
  • sends visual information to the brain
5
Q

Cones

A

Speciliased visual receptors that play a key role in daylight vision and colour vision

6
Q

Rods

A

Specialised visual receptors that play a key role in night vision and peripheral vision

7
Q

Visual Pathway to the brain

A
  • Light enters eye
  • light information processed in retina
  • axons in optic nerve fire
  • travel through Optic Chiasm
  • information from inside half of each eye cross over
  • through geniculate nucleus of the thalamus
  • arrive at occipital lobe
8
Q

Optic Chiasm

A

the point where axons from inside of each eye cross over and become contralateral

9
Q

Key physical properties of sound

A

Wavelength - Pitch
Amplitude - Loudness
Purity - Timbre

10
Q

Sensory Processing in the Outer Ear

A
  • Pinna is the sound collecting cone

- funnels sound to the eardrum

11
Q

Sensory Processing in the Middle Ear

A
  • Vibrations in the eardrum through the Ossicles (bones called hammer, anvil and stirrup)
  • Ossicles conver large movements into smaller motions with greater forces
  • amplify tiny changes in air pressure
12
Q

Sensory Processing in the Inner Ear

A
  • consists of the cochlea; coil which is filled with fluid
  • vibrations move through the basilar membrane
  • Basilar membrane holds auditory receptors called hair cells
