What is tar and how does it affect the body?
It is a carcinogen that causes cancer and damaged the mouth, esophagus, and lungs
Name 3 ingredients in cigarettes
nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide
What happens if a pregnant mother smokes?
The blood vessels constrict, so the baby does not get enough nutrients and can be born very small
What kind of drug is nicotine?
stimulant
Why is second hand smoking dangerous?
tar coming from side-stream smoke can enter someone else’s lungs and cause cancer
What is the difference between side-stream and main-stream smoke?
Side-stream comes from the burning end and contains tar; main-stream is breathed in and out of the body
What is a carcinogen?
a drug that is related with tar and causes cancer
What are alveoli?
baloon-like sacs in the lungs that take oxygen and put in in the red blood vessels to take to the rest of the body; they also take carbon-dioxide out of the body
What is emphysema?
a breathing difficulty caused from long-term smoking

What is Carbon-monoxide?
a clear gas that fills up in place of oxygen in red blood cells; if takes up place of all oxygen, you die
What are three ways that alcohol affect the body?
It slows down blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate
What are the differences between alcohol in men and alcohol in women?
It takes longer for a guy to get drunk than a girl to get drunk
What are some factors that affect your BAC?
how much you have eaten, how much water you have drank, your weight, your activity level, etc.
