1
Q

Metabolism

A

This refers to the collection of chemical reaction in cells that support life

2
Q

Water

A

is the most abundant substance in the body. REquired for a variety of metabolic proceses

3
Q

Food

A

refers to substances that provide organisms with necessary chemicals.

4
Q

Oxygen

A

makes up 1/5 of air. Used to release energy from nutrients.

5
Q

HEat

A

form of energy present in environment. Amount present partly controls rate at which reactions occur.

6
Q

Homeostasis

A

Refers to the body’s ability to keep its internal conditions stable, such that its cell can survive. To this end, all cells, whether as part of a tissue, an organ, or an organ system, make some specific contribution

7
Q

HHomeostatic Mechanics share what three components?

A

Receptors, Control Center, and Effectors

8
Q

Receptors

A

Are on the lookot. They provide information about specific conditions in the internal environment. A receptor may be as small as a cell or even a protein that is part of a cell

9
Q

Control Center

A

or decision maker, includes a set point that they try to maintain

10
Q

Effectors

A

Such as muscles or glands, tae action. They cause appropriate responses

11
Q

Negative Feedback

A

Occur because the deviation from the set point is corrected, and because the correction reduces the response of the effectors.

12
Q

Positive Feedback

A

In which a change is not reversed but intensified and the effector activity is initially increased rather than turned off. An example is blood clotting
