Q

Law of effect

A

In any given situation the probability of a behavior occurring is a function of the consequences that behavior has had in that situation in the past. Meaning:

Consequences can change a behavior in one or two ways.
“They can strengthen the behavior, or they can weaken it.”

2
Q

Punisher:

A

An event that, when made contingent on a behavior, decreases the frequency of that behavior.

People avoid/escape aversive events such as punishment

3
Q

Punishment

A

The procedure of providing consequences for a behavior that decreases the frequency of that behavior.

Punishment weakens a behavior

4
Q

Kinds of Punishment

Reprimands:

A

To reduce the frequency of a target behavior by making disapproval contingent on the target behavior: e.g “No, not like that!”

5
Q

Response cost;

A

To reduce the frequency of a target behavior by making removal of a reinforcer contingent on the target behavior.
It don’t come cheap, it costs you.

6
Q

Time- Out

A

To reduce the frequency of a target behavior by making removal of a person from a reinforcing situation contingent on the target behavior.

7
Q

Overcorrection:

A

To reduce the frequency of a target by making restitution for damage done and repeated performance of appropriate behavior contingent on the target behavior

8
Q

Restitution vs Positive practice

A

Restitution: not only replacing the damage but also making other improvements.

Positive practice: repeatedly performing the appropriate behavior in the situation where the target behavior occurred.

9
Q

Physical punishment

A

To reduce the frequency of a target behavior by making brief and non-injurious contact with the skin.
