1
Q

What is a registrar

A

Worktables, tiny storage areas, that are 16 bits wide, on the CPU that hold charged binary commands.

2
Q

What are the core CPU components?

A
Speed
External Data Bus
Address Bus
CPU Code book = Machine Language
Registrar
3
Q

What is the External Data Bus

A

Used to communicate from the CPU and the RAM

4
Q

What is the Address Bus

A

Enables the CPU to communicate with the MCC

5
Q

How does the CPU represent commands

A

On or Off, 1 or 0

6
Q

What are the four general purpose registrars

A

AX BX CX DX

7
Q

What is the Clock Wire

A

The clock wire tells the CPU that there is another piece of data waiting to be processed. It may take many cycles for the data to be processed.
1 Hz = 1 cycle

8
Q

What is a Clock Cycle

A

The voltage that must be applied to the CLK wire

9
Q

What is the clock speed?

A

the max number of clock cycles

10
Q

What determines the speed

A

The system crystal, quartz oscillator

11
Q

How does RAM work

A

Like a spreadsheet, each line of memory is addressed and holds either a 1 or 0.

12
Q

How does RAM stay charged

A

DRAM is charged by the semiconductors on the RAM stick

13
Q

How is data handled on the RAM

A

MCC grabs the contents of any line of RAM to place on the EDB.

14
Q

How do the CPU and MCC communicate

A

Address Bus

15
Q

Why does the number of wires on the address bus matter?

A

The number of wires is equal to the amount of RAM that the CPU can handle

16
Q

Which line of CPU is meant for the enthusiast/main stream build (Intel and AMD)?

A
Intel = Core i7
AMD = A Series or FX
17
Q

Which CPU is recommended for the budget PC

A
Intel = Pentium or Celeron
AMD = Sempron or Athlon
18
Q

Which CPU is recommended for the Portable/Mobile CPU

A
Intel = Core M
AMD = Atom A Series
19
Q

What CPU is recommended for a server

A

Xeon or Opteron

20
Q

What are the 8 features of CPUs

A
Clock Multiplier
64 or 32 bit processing
Virtualization Support
Parallel Execution
Multicore Processing
Integrated MCC
Integrated Graphics
Security
21
Q

What does the clock multiplier mean

A

CPU can run at a multiple of the clock speed

22
Q

What is pipelining

A
Get a command from data bus, calculate, sed result
or
Fetch
Decode
Execute
write
23
Q

What would stall a computer

A

If teh RAM speed doesn’t match the CPU speed

24
Q

Why is a cache important

A

Static RAM inside the CPU preloads instructions

25
Q

What are threads

A

programs broken down into little pieces

26
Q

What is the front side bus

A

Address bus and external data bus connecting the CPU , MCC and RAM

27
Q

What is teh Backside Bus

A

connecting the CPU and the l2 chache

28
Q

What are the 6 Intel Socket types to remember?

A
775
1155
1156
1366
1150
2011
1151
29
Q

How do you overclcok a CPU

A

sometimes by moving the CMOS pins or adjusting within the BIOS, The voltage going into the cpu will need to be changed.

30
Q

What is another name for LGA775

A

Socket T

Penitum, Celeron, Core

31
Q

What is another name for LGA 1155

A
