1
Q

What is a behavioural chain?

A

a complex behaviour consisting of many component behaviours that occur together in a sequence

2
Q

What is task analysis?

A

the process of analyzing a behavioural chain by breaking it down into its individual stimulus-response components

3
Q

What is always the first step of task analysis?

A

to identify all the behaviours that are necessary to perform the task and write them down in order

4
Q

What are the 2 steps of task analysis?

A

identify all the behaviours that are necessary to perform the task and write them down in order, identify the SD associated with each behaviour,

5
Q

What are 3 different ways to conduct task analysis?

A

observe a competent person engage in the task, ask an expert, perform the task yourself and record each of the component responses

6
Q

What are chaining procedures?

A

strategies for teaching complex tasks (behavioural chains)

7
Q

What do chaining procedures involve?

A

systematic application of prompting and fading strategies to each stimulus-response component in the chain

8
Q

What is backward chaining?

A

uses prompting and fading to teach the last behaviour in the chain first

9
Q

What is forward chaining?

A

teach one component of the chain at a time and prompting and fading to teach the behaviour associated with the SD at each step in the chain; teaching the first component first.

10
Q

What is total task presentation?

A

the complex chain of behaviours is taught as a single unit, the total task is completed in each trial, use prompting to get the learner to engage in the entire chain of behaviors from start to finish

11
Q

What is graduate guidance?

A

one type of physical prompting and fading often used with the total task presentation procedure

12
Q

What are the similarities between forward, backward and total task chaining?

A

all used to teach chaining, a task analysis myst be completed before training, prompting and fading are used in all 3 procedures

13
Q

What are some other strategies for teaching behavioural chains?

A

Written Task Analysis, Picture Prompts, Video Modelling, Self Instructions

14
Q

What is the training sequence for each component of the chain as given in lecture?

A

Present the SD, Verbal and physical prompt
Praise (and possibly other reinforcers) for correct response, Fade prompts
When response occurs without prompts, move to the next S-R component, Continue steps 1-5 until done

15
Q

What does variable chains mean?

A

Not all chains occur in the same sequence with every presentation

16
Q

What does variable chaining help with?

A

Train each individual step without context, leads to flexible problem-solving
