It’s a theory that seeks to explain the nature, origins and development of the person’s presenting problems.

What are some key points about covert sensitisation?

A

Steps:

  1. Become relaxed.
  2. Analyse your destructive habit
  3. Create a pleasure hierarchy
  4. Create an aversion scene - thought of something which deeply repulses or frightens you.
  5. Combine pleasurable and aversive scenes - and turn off the aversive scene as soon as the pleasurable one has stopped.
  6. Alter the aversive scene
  7. Practice covert sensitisation in real life.
