What is cardiac tamponade?

A

A life-threatening condition in which elevated pressures within the pericardium impair the filling of the heart during diastole.

What is myocardial infarction?

A

Circulation to a region of the heart is obstructed and necrosis is occurring.

What is myocardial contusion?

A

Cardiac injury from blunt or penetrating trauma to the chest. It is an occasional cause of cardiac arrhythmia and a rare cause of rupture of the heart.

What is the management of pericardial tamponade?

A

Airway management, a fluid bolus in order to maintain pressure, and rapid transport to a physician who can perform pericardiocentesis.
