1
Q

What is meant by a ‘saturated solution’

A

A solution containing the maximum amount of solute dissolved into it.

There is always some undissolved substance in the container.

2
Q

What is meant by ‘solubility’?

A

How well a solute dissolves into 100 g of water

3
Q

What units do we measure solubility in?

A

g/100 g of water

4
Q

Which is more soluble: salt or sugar?

A

Sugar

5
Q

How do you know that sugar is more soluble than salt?

A

More sugar can dissolve into 100 g of water than salt.

6
Q

What is meant by an ‘insoluble’ solute?

A

A solute that will not dissolve in water.

7
Q

Give an example of an insoluble solute.

A

Chalk

Sand

8
Q

How does temperature affect solubility?

A

The higher the temperature, the more soluble a substance becomes.

9
Q

Does the solubility of different substances increase at the same speed?

A

No some substances do not become much more soluble. e.g. salt.

10
Q

Write the substances in order, from most soluble to least soluble.

A

Lithium Chloride

Copper Chloride

Magnesium Chloride

Sodium Chloride

11
Q

Which solute in the graph beceoms less soluble the higher the temperature?

A

Cerium (III) sulfate
