1

Cerebral Penduncles (Human)

  • Part of the mesenchephalan (midbrain)
  • Peduncles = tracts (nerve fibers/bundles)
  • Connects the lower brain to the higher brain
  • *Carried information from the lower to the higher part of the brain

2

Cerebral Penduncles (Sheep)

  • Part of the mesenchephalan (midbrain)
  • Peduncles = tracts (nerve fibers/bundles)
  • Connects the lower brain to the higher brain
  • *Carried information from the lower to the higher part of the brain

3

Corpora Quadrigemina (Human)

  • Involuntary eye and ear reflexes
  • Eye reflexes include blinking, dilating & constricting pupul
  • Ear reflexes include ringling, muffles, and turning ear to sound

4

Corpora Quadrigemina (Sheep)

  • Involuntary eye and ear reflexes
  • Eye reflexes include blinking, dilating & constricting pupul
  • Ear reflexes include ringling, muffles, and turning ear to sound

5

Corpora Quadrigemina (Superior Colliculi)

6

Corpora Quadrigemina (Inferior Colliculi)

7

Pons (Sheep)

  • "Bridge" from low brain to high brain
  • Regulates complex breathing (how fast, shallow, deep)

8

Pons (Human)

  • "Bridge" from low brain to high brain
  • Regulates complex breathing (how fast, shallow, deep)

9

Medulla Oblongata (Human)

  1. Life support (breathing, heart rate, heart beat, coughing, vomitting)
  2. Decussation of pyramids

10

Medulla Oblongata (Sheep)

  1. Life support (breathing, heart rate, heart beat, coughing, vomitting)
  2. Decussation of pyramids

11

Decussation of Pyramids (Human)

  • Located on the medulla oblongata
  • Crossing over of nerve tracts
  • Ex: Right side of the brain crosses over to the left side of the body
  • Ex: Left side of the brain crosses over to the right side of the body

12

Decussation of Pyramids (Sheep)

  • Located on the medulla oblongata
  • Crossing over of nerve tracts
  • Ex: Right side of the brain crosses over to the left side of the body
  • Ex: Left side of the brain crosses over to the right side of the body

13

Brain Stem (Human)

  • Consists of the medulla oblongata and the pons

14

Brain Stem (Sheep)

  • Consists of the medulla oblongata and the pons
