Sin of shirk and why it’s a major sin?

A

=breaking tawhid by associating other beings with God (like a shark=shirk).
-suggests something other than God is in control of human destiny.
Placing money/power above God= Shirk- meaning other beings more important than Allah.
No images/pictures in Mosques as of Shirk only abstract art/calligraphy.

Meaning/importance of belief in mercy and compassion of God?

A

Merciful/ compassionate= Allah forgives, loves, supports and cares for Muslims.
Without this= hopeless, as they’re weak creatures who ought to be punished for sin, but Allah is merciful enough to forgive.
No Muslim would survive judgement of God unless Allah fair/ merciful. Belief in God’s mercy/ compassion gives them courage to strive to live a good life.
Strengthens Muslims love for Allah- shows God not merciless and cruel.

Meaning/ importance of belief in Islamic teaching on nature of humans as Khalifahs.

A

Belief that, as descendants of Adam, all humans put on Earth to be Khalifah(stewards) and look after the world as good intended.
Good khalifah means= accepting six beliefs, following pillars and Shari’ah as given in Qur’an.
Allah given Qur’an and example of prophets so humans have no excuse for not being good so God justified in judging people on how they fulfilled their role as Khalifahs.

Meaning/ importance of belief in Islamic teaching on al-qadar and human freedom.

A

Al Qadar= belief Allah has plan for universe and power to make that plan come about and that whatever happens is part of His plan.
Most muslims believe humans have to do what Allah wants of their own free will. Allah knows what people will do anything n the future (omniscient), but Allah allows people freedom to choose what to do- he knows in advance what choices will be made.

Meaning/ importance of belief in Islamic teaching on angels?

A

Angels created directly by Allah, made of light and sexless (have male names). No freewill- cannot do evil.
Chief angels: Gabriel- gives God messages to prophets, Michael looks after heaven and keeps devil out, Israfil responsible for sounding trumpet on last day and Izrail takes last breath from dying.
Believe have recording angels- write everything they do for judgement and guardian look after them IF good muslims.
Allah uses angels to communicate with humans via prophets.

Meaning/ importance of belief in Risalah- Ibrahim? beliefs about prophets of allah)

A

Believe prophets (messengers) are humans called by God to give His messages.
Made sinless when become prophet, but remain human.
Adam first, given message of Islam.
Ibrahim- born into polytheistic family, but came to believe Allah- broke all statues of Gods in his tribe- condemned to be burnt to death- Allah stopped fire touching him.
Ibrahim two sons- Ismail (prophet for Arabs) and Ishaq (prophet for Jews).
Ibrahim tested by Allah to sacrifice Ismail and devil tempted him not to. Ibrahim stoned devil and obeyed Allah. So Allah gave ram to sacrifice and Ismail saved. Ibrahim and Ismail rebuilt Ka’bah- destroyed by Noah’s flood.

Meaning/ importance of belief in Risalah- Jesus? (beliefs about prophets of allah)

A

Isa(Jesus) born of Virgin Mary, but no Son of God and not crucified on cross; someone else died in his place. Isa performed many miracles, taken directly to heaven by God- will return at the end of the world.

Meaning/ importance of belief in Risalah- work of prophets? (beliefs about prophets of allah)

A

Work of all prophets got forgotten/ distorted- Allah called a prophet to give the message in a way that could not be distorted so no more prophets needed- Prophet Muhammad. Performed no miracles except receiving Qur’an- final word of God, given to Muhammad in such a way which could never be distorted.
Muslims say Peace be Upon Him each time mention prophets name.

Meaning/ importance in Islamic teaching on holy books, other than Qur’an?

A

Qur’an= final word of God- no other holy books needed, but Allah given many Holy books to humanity (Tawrat, Zabur, Injil).
Holy books not same as Hadith- sayings of Muhammad.
David given Allah’s word in holy book of Zabur.
Jesus given Allah’s word in Injil.
All distorted- no longer original.
Only Qur’an given in form not distorted/ forgotten.

Revelation of Qur’an to Muhammad?

A

During Ramadan, Muhammad meditating in Cave Hira on Mount Nur, Gabriel appeared- recite Iqra. At first M said he couldn’t, angel clasped him and told him to recite. After 3 times, M could recite Surah 96 of Qur’an= NIGHT OF POWER (layat-ul-Qadr).

A

Revelation of Qur’an= greatest of all miracles- proves words in Qur’an are exact words of Allah.
Time when first words of Qur’an revealed to Muhammad.
M became final prophet as he received first messages of Allah.
M received more revelations which recorded in Qur’an.

What’s the belief in Akhirah of Muslims? (Life after death)

A

When people die, body stays in grave and remains in Barzakh (place of waiting separating living from dead) until Last Day when earth ended and everyone dies. Israfil sounds trumpet and there will be resurrection. All dead raised and gather on plain of Arafat for final judgement. No one knows when day of judgement happens, but Isa will come before and kill Dajjal (beast of evil) and dead will rise.

How belief in Akhirah affects Muslim lives?

A

Judgement day taken place with: everyone naked, nothing hidden, each will read out book of lives- no thought/ action remain hidden. Each judged on how well behaved as Khalifahs and sent to heaven/ hell.
= muslims lead lives knowing Allah knows everything- think/do. Motivates them to ensure live their lives in accordance with will of Allah recorded in the Qur’an. Everything do is Ibadah (act of worship).
So Muslims will= observe pillars, learn Qur’an, follow Shari’ah, avoid haram, show kindness to others, work in a job that pleases Allah, be honest and fair in dealings of others and do every action for God.

Nature and importance in belief in tawhid?

A

God is unity= Tawhid.
Expressed in first part of shahadah-‘I bear witness that there is no God but Allah’.
Allah= one so Ummah and creation one.
Only one God (Allah) created universe and sustainer of everything.
Allah= omnipotent, controller of everything, merciful and compassionate, forgives sins and will judge people on Last day.
