What does the AFCS control? (axis)
Two-axis (pitch and roll) dual channel actuates ailerons and elevators control surfaces.
What major flight control system does it not control?
Rudder. This is because of the yaw dampers.
600 AGL for T/O
400 AGL for visual and non-prescison approaches.
80 AGL for Precision app.
Which side controls the aileron servo?
Only the right side column.
Which side controls the elevator servo?
Only the left side column.
What connects the ailerons and elevator, but can be disconnected?
Torque tube underneath the cockpit.
What panel controls the auto-pilot?
Flight Control Panel (FCP)
What does the FCP have on it?
Lateral mode, Vertical mode, Autopilot Control, and Flight Director.
What ways can the Flight Director be activated?
FD pushbutton, engaging the autopilot, selecting the lat or ver mode on the FCP, and TOGA button.
How do you sync both FD either lat or vert if they're showing different readouts?
Pressing the SYNC button the on the yoke. AFCS must be disengaged. Also, you will get a indication message of this.
How does the FD's operate independently during 3 modes?
TOTO, APPR, and GAGA.
If the FD fails how will you be notified?
Through the ED2 as messages (fd 1(2) fail) in white. Also the PFD will show in RED FD.
After receiving a new heading what must the PF(if the auto-pilot is engaged do?
Set the heading and ask the PM to confirm.
What will the primary source for determining AFCS mode status?
FMA FLIGHT MODE ANNUNCIATOR.
Which modes are prohibited by SOPM?
IAS, ROLL, and PITCH.
When would the 1/2 bank be automatically armed?
When passing 31,600.
When is half-bank disconnected?
t/o and go-arounds.
What condition allow the AFCS to engage?
Both FCC, Both AHRS, 1 ADC, 1 stab trim engaged, 1 yaw damper, and no significant stability
What disengages the auto pilot?
Failure of a yaw damper, windshear, unusual attitudes, stall warning, and manual override.
What altitude are we permitted to fly without a auto pilot?
FL280 for RVSM but company FL200.
