1

What risk factors are directly related to ARDS

Ventilator
High oxygen delivery
Low saturated oxygen on a blood gas

2

What is the 3 general criteria for ARDS

1. Severe hypoxemia
2. Decreased pulmonary compliance
3. Diffuse pulmonary infiltrates and non cardiogenic form of pulmonary edema, not left side heart failure PAWP less than 18

3

What are the guidelines for respiratory failure

PAO2 less than 60 OR PaCO2 greater than 50 with a pH less than or equal to 7.30

4

Stages of ARDS

1. Exudative ( acute) phase 0-4 days
2. Proliferative phase 4-8 days
3. Fibrotic phase > 8 days
4. Recovery phase

5

Wha is a normal lactate level

0

6

What is management of ARDS

Maintaining adequate oxygenation and tissue perfusion using mechanical ventilation ( goal is to achieve ventilation & oxygenation adequate to support organ function)
Fluid management to support perfusion to tissue

7

What is an important marker of tissue perfusion

Serum lactate

8

When should a person be proned

PFration < 100 on at least 60% oxygen
