cholestyramine

•hypercholesterolemia
•MOA: binds bile acids increasing production of bile acids from cholesterol, decreases LDL
•side effects: constipation, abdominal discomfort, pancreatitis, bloating

niacin

•hypertriglyceridemia
•MOA: poorly understood, decreases VLDl, increases HDL
•side effects: vasodilation, flushing, hepatotoxicity, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia

gemfibrozil, fenofibrate

•hypertriglyceridemia, mild effect to increase HDL and decrease LDL
•MOA: activate PPAR-alpha and increase lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and decrease TGs
•side effects: rhabdomyolysis (esp if gemfibrozil given with statin) increased LFTs, gallstones

statins

•lovastatin, simvastatin, pravastatin, atorvastatin, rosuvastatin
•hypercholesteremia
•MOA: HMG co-A reductase inhibitor, decrease LDL
•side effects: muscle aches, rhabdomyolysis, hepatitis

evolocumab, alirocumab

•hypercholesteremia
•MOA: antibodies that block effect of PCSK9 to break down LDL receptors
•side effects: memory problems?
