Q

How does Penicillin V work

A

Diffuses though Gram + bacteria cell wall and through porins in gram - bacteria cell wall. Binds to PBP enzyme to inhibit it and prevents cross links in the peptidoglycan call wall allowing water to flood the cell causing lysis

Q

How does tetracycline work

A

Acts against Gram + and - bacteria and enters through diffusion and protein pumps
Inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes preventing tRNA attaching

Q

How does antibiotic resistance occur

A

Mutations make some bacteria immune to antibiotics allowing them to survive, meaning they reproduce and create a large population of immune individuals
