19
Q

What does ‘Ventral’ mean?

A

On the front (except in reference to the head)

20
Q

What does ‘Lateral Flexion’ mean?

A

Movement of the head or trunk laterally away from the midline. Abduction of spine

21
Q

What does ‘Reduction’ mean?

A

Return of spine to medial position from lateral flexion. Adduction of spine

22
Q

What does ‘Ulnar Deviation’ mean?

A

Adduction movement at wrist of little finger side of hand towards forearm

23
Q

What does ‘Radial Deviation’ mean?

A

Abduction movement of thumb side of hand towards forearm

24
Q

What does ‘Elevation’ mean?

A

Moving a part superiorly (like shrugging shoulders)

25
Q

What does ‘Relations’ mean?

A

Relative to another part

26
Q

What does ‘Flexion’ mean?

A

Bending at a joint as to decrease the angle

27
Q

What does ‘Extension’ mean?

A

Bending at a joint to straighten the joint

28
Q

What does ‘Circumduction’ mean?

A

Moving in a circular motion, combining multiple different movements

29
Q

What does ‘Depression’ mean?

A

Moving a part inferiorly (like bringing shrugged shoulders back down)

30
Q

What does ‘Abduction’ mean?

A

Movement away from the midline. In hands and feet use their own midlines

31
Q

What does ‘Adduction’ mean?

A

Movement towards the midline. In hands and feet use their own midlines

32
Q

What does ‘Opposition’ mean?

A

Movement of the thumb around towards the fingers

33
Q

What does ‘Reposition’ mean?

A

Movement of the thumb away from the fingers to anatomical position

A

Turning sole of foot inward, or medially.

35
Q

What does ‘Eversion’ mean?

A

Turning sole of foot outward

36
Q

What does ‘Rotation’ mean?

A

To turn on its own axis.

37
Q

What does ‘Protraction’ mean?

A

To move into a more anterior position than normal

38
Q

What does ‘Retraction’ mean?

A

To move into a more posterior position than normal

39
Q

What does ‘Dorsiflexion’ mean?

A

Elevating the foot so the toes point up

40
Q

What does ‘Plantarflexion’ mean?

A

Lowering the foot so the toes point down

41
Q

What does ‘The Anatomical Position’ mean?

A

Standing upright with the head, eyes and toes directed anteriorly, arms adjacent to thesides with the palms facing anteriorly, and the lower limbs close together with the feet parallel

42
Q

Why do we have ‘The Anatomical Position’?

A

All anatomical descriptions are expressed in relation to one consistentposition, ensuring that descriptions are not ambiguous.

43
Q

What does ‘Median’ mean?

A

The vertical plane passing longitudinally through the body, divides the body into right andleft halves. This defines the midline of the head, neck, and trunk where it intersects the surface ofthe body.

44
Q

What does ‘Sagittal’ mean?

A

Vertical planes passing through the body parallel to the median plane.

45
Q

What does ‘Frontal/ Coronal’ mean?

A

46
Q

What is used interchangeably with ‘median’?

A

Midline

47
Q

What does ‘Transverse’ mean?

A

Horizontal planes passing through the body at right angles to the median and frontalplanes, dividing the body into superior and inferior parts.

48
Q

What does ‘Axial’ mean?

A

The same as transverse, except transverse will be oblique/ diagonal on limbs.
