  • Pre-existing respiratory disease/injury
  • Side effects of pre-meds or induction agents
3
Q

How do you fix and monitor induction apnoea?

A
  • IPPV for short period
  • Turn down or switch off vaporiser if necessary
  • Check eye position and palpebral reflex
4
Q

What are signs of respiratory arrest?

A
  • Dysponea before arrest
  • Cyanosis
  • Abnormal HR
  • Abnormal CRT
  • Abnormal Pulse
  • Abnormal pupil dilation
5
Q

What should you do if the patient goes into respiratory arrest?

A
  • Inform vet
  • Turn off vaporiser
  • Place ET tube and give 100% oxygen
  • Commence IPPV (deliver 1 breath every 6 seconds)
  • Check heart to ensure no cardiac arrest
  • IV fluids and drugs e.g. reversals
  • Keep patient warm
  • Once vital signs are normal cease IPPV for 30 seconds to see if patient will breath on their own
