Q

STUDY THE FOLLOWING:

  • Takeoff charts.
  • Landing charts.
  • Cruise charts.
  • Crosswind charts.
A

2
Q

What is pressure altitude?

A

What you get when you set 29.92 in the altimeter window, and read the indicated altitude.

It tells you what altitude you’d have to fly in a standard atmosphere to have the same air pressure.

3
Q

When is pressure altitude equal to true altitude?

A

When standard atmospheric conditions exist.

4
Q

What is density altitude?

A

Pressure altitude corrected for nonstandard temperature.

It’s a measure of how far apart the molecules of air are compared with standard temperature.

5
Q

When are pressure altitude and density altitude the same?

A

At standard temperature.

6
Q

What effect does increasing ambient temperature have on density altitude?

A

It increases it.

7
Q

If the outside air temperature at a given altitude is warmer than standard, is the density altitude higher or lower than pressure altitude?

A

Higher.

8
Q

What effect does high relative humidity have on density altitude?

A

It increases it.

9
Q

Which three atmospheric conditions will reduce aircraft takeoff and climb performance?

A

High temperature, high relative humidity, and high density altitude.

10
Q

What happens to propeller efficiency at high density altitude? Why?

A

The efficiency is reduced, because the propeller exerts less force than at lower density altitudes.
