A

Results from the movement of charged particles. Electrical currents are generated when charged particles, called ions, move along or across cell membranes.

A

Adenosine triphosphate: Chemical that temporarily bonds food energy

Mechanical energy

A

Energy that is directly involved in moving matter

Example: when you ride a bike, your legs provide mechanical energy to move the peddles

Energy that travels in waves

These waves vary in length and are collectively called the electromagnetic spectrum

A

Contains protons and neutrons tightly bound together

Protons/Neutrons

A

Protons have a positive electrical charge … neutrons are neutral so the nucleus is positively charged overall.

Electrons

A

Negative charge equal in strength to the positive charge of the proton yet are much smaller therefore lighter.

Surrounds and orbits the nucleus

The number of protons and electrons always equal for any Atom

A

Equal to the number of protons in the nucleus and is written as a subscript to the left of it atomic symbol
