1
Q

What is Newton’s first law?

A

An object will remain at rest or continue to move with a constant velocity unless it is acted upon by a resultant force.

2
Q

What is Newton’s third law?

A

When two objects interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other.

3
Q

What type of force is the force of two objects touching?

A

Electrostatic

repulsion of electrons in the atoms

4
Q

What is the principle of the conservation of momentum?

A

For a closed system, the momentum in a certain direction remains constant.

Momentum before the collision = momentum after the collision

5
Q

What is momentum?

A

The product of an objects mass and velocity

6
Q

What happens in a perfectly elastic collision?

A
  • Momentum is conserved
  • Total energy is conserved
  • Kinetic Energy is conserved
7
Q

What happens in an inelastic collision?

A
  • Momentum is conserved
  • Total energy is conserved
  • Kinetic Energy is NOT conserved
8
Q

What is Newton’s second law?

A

The net force acting on an object is directly proportional to the rate of change of momentum and is in the same direction.

9
Q

Why is momentum conserved, according to Newton’s laws?

A

3rd Law - interacting objects exert equal and opposite forces on each other (F, -F)

In contact for same amount of time

2nd Law - F = p/t -> p=Ft

Ft = -Ft

10
Q

What is impulse?

A

A change in momentum

11
Q

How is impulse represented on a force time graph?

A

The area under the graph
