Nine Box Model

A

WTF - is a graphical plot of your team (one person compared to another) that can be used to identify high potential (vertical access) and performance the (horizontal access)

  • identifies high potential team members and those that need development
  • there are 2 scales:

a. Performace which answer what you achieved
b. Business skills which answer how you achieved

What is Potential

A

Jean Martin and Conrad Schmidt in their 2010 Harvard Business Review article describe high potentials as possessing to a degree the ability i.e. intellectual, technical and emotional skills, engagement i.e. personal connection and commitment the employee feels towards the company as well as the aspiration i.e. the desire for recognition, advancement and future rewards

a. Drive to excel i.e. ambition leads them to make hard choices.
b. Catalytic learning capability i.e. they scan new ideas, absorb and translate them into useful concepts.
c. Enterprising spirit i.e. they search for productive paths, leave career comfort zone for risky assignments.
d. Dynamic sensors i.e. they avoid derailment through a sense of timing, a quick reading of situations, decisions on judgement.
