A

Peritonsilar abscess.
Complication of tonsillitis.
Collection of pus in peritonsilar space.

Don’t let the sun go down on undrained pus – ENT emergency
Needs surgery.

CAN BE FATAL

Parainfluenza virus, rarely bacteria.
Oral dexamethasone. Nebbed adrenaline if not.
Check oxygen sats.
Disease is usually self-limiting.

diptheria features

A

Sore throat and fever with grey patches at back of throat. Pt may develop croup or lymph node swelling. Leads to difficulty breathing and swallowing as the membrane spreads.

May also cause skin lesions and myocarditis.
