Q

Environments that inhibit need satisfaction

A

inattentive

cold

overly controlling

overly challenging social and learning environments undermine the fulfillment of autonomy, competence, and relatedness needs

Q

Ryan et al (1993)

A

researched religiosity with introjection and identification on effect towards mental health

Results: introjection beliefs positively associated with depression and anxiety. Identified beliefs negatively associated with anxiety and depression

Nostalgia and the intrinsic self

Q

Legault & Inzlicht (2013)

A

reasoned that if autonomy promotes effective self-regulation, it should also enhance behavioral response and adjustment to self-regulatory failure

Study 1:
-Results: autonomy related to a lower member of euros by virtue of its relationship to stronger error related negativity (ERN). More autonomous people responded more intensely to errors and self regulated more effectively.

Study 2:
-Results: autonomy condition resulted in fewer errors by virtue of its relationship to a self-determined motivation towards the task, which in turn led to stronger ERNs

Conclude: autonomy increases peoples sensitivity to signals of self-regulatory failure. They self regulate more effectively
