1
Q

What should be done to the fuel system of an engine when storing for up to 1 month?

A

They must be protected from the corrosion which can result from water held in suspension in the fuel. Fuel cocks must also be turned off.

2
Q

What should be done to the lubrication systems of an engine when storing for up to 1 month?

A

Drained, filters removed and cleaned OR filled with normal levels of clean system oil or storage oil.

3
Q

What should be done to the externals of the engine when storing for up to 1 month?

A

Corrosion should be removed, retreat areas affected and then desiccant or vapour phase inhibitor should be inserted in the intake/exhaust and all apertures should be fitted approved covers or blanks.

4
Q

What additional tasks should be done if storing an engine over 1-6 months?

A

Grease all control rods and fittings;

Blank off all vents and apertures on the engine

5
Q

An aircraft engine that is in a moisture vapor proof envelope (removed from the aircraft) should be inspected for corrosion and be preserved again after how long?

A

3 years

6
Q

When placing an engine in an MVP envelope, the humidity indicator should be checked after how long?

A

24 hours

7
Q

What colour does the humidity indicator turn when showing humid conditions?

A

Pink (blue is normal, no humidity)

8
Q

At what interval should engines that are not preserved in a sealed envelope be inspected?

A

Approximately every 2 weeks

9
Q

True or false; only the fuel system requires inhibiting oil due to the corrosive effect if water is present in the fuel?

A

True.

10
Q

What are the three methods of oil circulation?

A

Motoring method
Pressure rig method
Gravity method

11
Q

What should happen to bleed valves if removing an engine for long term storage?

A

They should be open but blanked off

12
Q

When is the humidity indicator checked on a preserved engine?

A

In monthly intervals

13
Q

If an engine is installed, but inhibited; when should re-preserving take place?

A

Every 6 months

14
Q

If an inhibited engine is given periodic ground runs, where should this be noted?

A

In the engine log book

15
Q

What does long-term storage class as?

A

up to 6 months

16
Q

What is desiccant used for?

A

To remove moisture from the air

17
Q

Can small cuts in an MVP envelope be repaired?

A

Yes by using adhesive PVC tape

18
Q

What is fuel system inhibiting oil made from?

A

Mineral oil
